Xbox 360 without hdd

Guys,
can i use my gen1 360 without a hard drive in?
Reason i ask is that it boots into the dashboard fine, but i can't connect a wireless controller to it, even when i press the resync button on the console and on the controller.
I was wanting to see if i could use it purely as a media center.

Err....that's why i asked the question mate, i need to be able to control it, but not sure if the lack of hdd has anything to do with the fact that i can't connect the controller to the console.

It does not have anything to do with it I'm afraid. You can use the machine without a HDD, though I would suspect you would need some form of storage device to use it as a media centre (to allow it to download required things).

Hmmm, bugger! Thanks Memphis. God knows why all of a sudden the controllers won't work.

Oh, could i use an external drive to download the bits n bobs for media center et al?

So long as the dash is up to date, you could use a small memory stick or something like that.
