hope someone can help,

my DVD drive broke and I had another xbox 360 with a dead motherboard so changed the drive into mine, but now if you put in a game , it comes up on screen please put disk in a 360 ? wont red anything and the drive works fine

is there a firmware in the Xbox which is linked to the original drive, if so how can I get the newer drive to work please ??

i believe each drive has a unique code in the firmware, it should be possible to edit the firmware in the new drive and swap out the security code but only if you can rip the firmware from your broken drive.

the tools to do it are out there ,you will need to google for a guide probably against the forum rules to give people links to xbox hacking even if it is for a legit use

"xbox360 firmware mod" or something along those lines should give some good results.

if both drives are the same make, just swap the pcb over from the knackered drive and the 360 will then work with the other drive.

i had to do this when my dvd drive stopped working, i just bought a new drive of the same make, swapped the boards, jobs a goodun

spaceman speaks the truth, had to do the same myself but with the lasers when mine packed up. What exactly was the problem with the old DVD drive?

the old drive would not open and or read for about 5 minutes, then if you tried to open the draw it would say opening onscreen but would not, then it would not close and read again

I shall check the drive make and see the auction site
