Hi guys i have a 360 with the RROD and its an year over its warrnty so im going to try the x clamp fix and i was wonding where to get it and which is the best?

yeh i have been looking on there but there are different ones

and this xbox is 4 and an half year old

I bought the nylon set for my RROD xbox but haven't fitted it yet.

Call the free phone support line (0800 587 1102) and see if they will repair it for free.

No cost for the call so no harm in asking.

I used Arctic Silver that I had left over from my PC build.

my xclamp fix worked for 5 months until it suffered some sort of hardware error.

It's as though some software inside has been corrupted

yeh i have been looking on there but there are different ones

I've seen kits include either metal spring washers or crushable nylon. Three friends and I have used the metal washer kits with varying success. We all applied high quality PC thermal paste and I lapped both heatsinks.

One machine lasted just over a month, one 6 months, another almost a year. Last I checked, mine's still working and produces significantly less noise than ever.

As above, results are mixed. I have done hundreds (using all-metal washers) and about 10% come back fairly quickly. A lot of them are still going strong a year later though, so for the amount of time and effort it takes you have nothing to lose by giving it a go

Phone m$, tell them your 360 has lasted 4 and half years.

Done a few myself, as said some go for another year, some few weeks!

I did this with a couple of screwdrivers and some pliers

I didn't have the RROD but had it apart anyway to change my drive laser so decided to replace the thermal paste whilst it was open, been much better since actually!
