I have a couple of questions about the 360...

I've had the premium since launch and I haven't been playing it much lately. I usually turn it on about once a week or two. The problem is that every time I turn on one of my controllers the 4 lights blink on it for a second, then it just stops and does nothing. It won't recognize the 360 even though they have been working and have been synced up for ages. If I plugin my play and charge cable then disconnect the cable, it works fine for that day. I try it the next week though and it doesn't work again...

Is this because I haven't been using it much or is there something wrong? I know it's not that much of a common problem but I was hoping some people here might be able to help.

The second question is about the HDMI cable that comes with the Elite. Is it possible to buy the separate optical adaptor that comes with the Xbox 360 Elite? My 360 is really loud and I've heard the Falcon is a lot quieter, I also don't think my launch 360 is going to last that long and if I got a Falcon I would want to use HDMI and 5.1 (my received needs an optical connection).

I know there is a trick with shortening down one of the component cables so that you can fit the optical cable and the HDMI cable in at the same time but I'd rather just buy one of those cables to keep it tidy. I can't see them on any auction sites, so I was wondering if anyone has seen them being sold separately?

Thanks in advance :)

That trick is very easy and you can easily make it look tidy. You can get the optical block in the official HDMI pack though.

It's a myth...I had a launch machine that had to be repaired twice in a month so I replaced it with a Falcon based machine and I can honestly say I don't think the Falcon is any quieter.

More reliable, yes...quieter...no.
Mines quieter than bro's and we brought our's on the same day, both Falcons. Could just be that people who get a quieter unit will say with all honesty that the Flacon is quieter, only it should be taken that their Falcon is quieter and that it's not true for all Falcons.

My Falcon console is quieter than my old one, and when playing games if I put my hand where the fans are there is hardly any heat at all. Where as with my old xbox my room would get hot very quick when the 360 was running.

The only thing which does make the 360 loud no matter what is the dvd drive, Benq's are supposed to be the quietest but I can really hear my Hitachi drive over the TV.

Thanks for all the replies, it has been helpful.

Regarding the optical dongle, your right Kreeeee. I should just do it myself and I did have a look at the custom job and it isn't really untidy.

Do the batteries on the controller really degrade that quick? I guess I have had them since launch, but that's only been a little over two years.
