Xbox anti aliasing

I just got a new Xbox 360 on the weekend ready for Halo 3, and i pluged it up to my 19 inch widescreen TFT with a VGA lead, and running it at 1366 x 768 resolution. But when i played Halo 3 last night and Gears of War, there dosent seem to be any anti aliasing at all in the game. Is there some settings im missing out. Or is there a specific setting i need to have it on to have anti aliasing enabled??

I seem to recall Gears had AA as well? Are you sure your monitor handles 1366x resolution well? Try lowering the resolution and see if that improves the picture quality. It could be your monitor struggling with a too high resolution.

I have had the same problem(?) since I started using my 19inch CRT monitor. My television is old and the definition, I thought, was quite lacking. I always assumed every game I played had AA enabled but now, after using my monitor, perhaps my television was so blurry it gave the illusion of AA.

If that makes sense.

Don’t get me wrong, I am having a fantastic time playing Halo 3 and really like the graphics… but I can’t see any AA anywhere… and to be honest, it would look even better with it!

So which resolution should I be using? I'm using the official xbox360 VGA converter and the highest non-widescreen resolution I can select is 1280x1024. To be honest, even though it's a huge difference when compared to my crappy TV, it still doesn't look quite as sharp as I was expecting.

They have AA, but not high AA. More like 2xAA. Its usually to keep the fps up. They seem to develop a lot of games with 4xAA then for release cut it down to 2 after Beta testing etc.

Well, if Halo 3 is using 2xAA at the very least, it doesn't really show. I still see jaggies everywhere. I don't care about jaggies really, but if I can get rid of them because I'm doing something wrong, then why not?!

In fact, I'm going to try GoW tonight and see if I can spot any differences. IMHO, my previous TV-based setup made GoW look like it had no jaggies what-so-ever. Again, this could be due to the crap quality of my TV!

There is definatally no AA on Halo 3 when im playing it, ill try diffrent resolutions and monitors to see if i can get it better.

Would it be better if i used a HDMI to DVi lead to conect up to the monitor. It's a Hanns G 19" widscreen.

Halo 3 has _no_ anti-aliasing. It's to keep the action up without dropping frames. There's no other game where you're facing roughly 40 aliens on a dam while dropships keep on coming.

I enjoyed that :)

Is that information from an official source?

Unlike some people, I don't need others telling me what I'm actually seeing. Get over it, Halo 3 isn't going to win any beauty contests, but maybe if you grovelled to some Bungie exec to tell you that the game looks like Jesus Christ in digital form, you will be utterly convinced otherwise.

So much for the FREE AA then?!?

Warhawk looks far better and that can get hectic too and there at least aren't jaggies everywhere making it look like it's running in 640x480.

O well, the 30FPS/60FPS arguments haven't appeared for a while so I guess this is the next thing we'll have to listen to for a few months.

Excuse me, but what the hell was that for? I said I enjoyed that part of the level and asked if what you said was a known fact, that is all! I haven't owned an xbox for long and don't know what it should be capable of, is capable of, if AA is standard in all games etc. I am learning. Your response was unessessary and did not provide any useful information, unlike your first reply.
