OK, so a few months back I foolishly bought (what I thought was just) a months gold access. Then couple of months later, realised that I was obviously now subscribed to pay monthly.

Was a bit annoyed, but not too much as I plan to play online a fair bit on the 360 now.

However, I was thinking of buying a 60GB drive which comes with 3 months live, so was thinking I would cancel my renewing subscription - also because it's a lot cheaper buying x months online.

Turns out, I am going to have a headache trying to remove the subscription. Not very happy about this. It's a very simple process that thousands of companies the world over can do withouth issue - just not MS.

Now, I read where one person mentioned that buying a 3 month sub and redeeming the code cancels the auto-renewal. Is this true? Or will it simply start renewing a again once the 3 month code has run out?

Most people say it does cancel the auto-renewal, but in my case it did not. I still got an email 11 months later telling me it is about to take payment for another 12 months, so I had to call up and get them to cancel it manually.

You will have to continue to put valid payment codes in to prevent the auto renew.

I'm not sure how anyone can complain about the difficulty of canceling the subscription.

I managed to get my Debit card removed from Miss Ks account, and Cancel the Gold subscription for her best friends account (that was on my Card) in the same call. With no hassle what so ever. Just answer a few personal questions correctly then don't use the card on the account (to buy stuff) for a month and its all good.

There is a website which I'm told sells 12month XBL codes quite cheap. I haven't used it myself yet, but I will be soon.

(Are we allowed to explicitly mention those sites here?)

Thanks K.

It's just that everything I have read it always sounded like a complete headache and took months for them to actually cancel a subscription.

So once I have cancelled and not bought for a month, would I then be able to purchase points again using the same card?

I don't mind using it for buying occasional points, but don't want to pay £5 a month when I can get it for almost half the price buying codes.

Isn't there a quite recent thread dedicated to said website?

Thanks K.

Just to be clear there are two things MS charge for
Microsoft Gamer points (the currency used for buying DLC)
XBL Subscription (the subscription to the gold XBL Service)

If your card is registered on your console it can be used for purchase of both, and MS automatically resubscribe using any card registered on the console. If you do not want any surprises never use your cards through your console.

MS do procrastinate over the removal of your card from the system. But all you need to do is Phone them up give them your personal details. Tell them to cancel the card and not use it on your console.

You can buy MS points in from gaming stores (and no doubt there will be a good online dealer for these) and there is a website that is dedicated to selling XBL subscriptions at low cost. There is no need to use your card on your console. Personally I would not buy anything less than a 12 month Subscription.

I think there is
