Xbox Controller in Windows 7 64bit

Up until now, I've been playing Pro Evo on the PC with 2 x USB to PS2 converters and 4 x PS2 Analogue pads.

But, I've just made the switch to Windows 7 and for the life of me I can't get these to work anymore.

I've heard that the best pad to use for the PC is the Xbox one, due to obvious reasons.

Questions:

- Would the smaller wired Xbox "Controller-s" work fine with Win 7 64?
- Are all Xbox pads USB?
- How do I hook up 4 pads for me and my mates (2 USBs on the front of my rig)?

Cheers

BB :)

Works fine for me on win7 premium x64. Just a case of plugging it in and watching the popup saying windows has configured it.

get a powered usb hub and ask around for a recommendation, I've got powered hubs before that just don't cut it for some devices, xbox wired pads may work with cheap usb hubs but it might be worth getting a decent one in case you use it for other devices (passport hard drives for example), can't recommend anything at the mo as I don't use one on my current system I'm afraid.

Just a minor point, the OP is asking regarding the "S" controller, which was actually the smaller revision original Xbox controller, which has a proprietary connector on the end.

Yes it will work fine with the XBCD drivers. You will need to disable driver signing though if its 64-bit.

Yeah they're all USB compatible, but they have their own connector shape on the end. You can easily mod/solder a standard usb connector on the end.

Get a cheap hub or use the ports on the back of your pc.

you dont need a usb hub, get 4 wireless pads and 1 receiver ;)

sell the wired ones.

He is on about the 'S' controller which is the smaller version of the original xbox controller and not a 360 controller.

I made a xbox controller hub a few years ago, ordered 2 sets of xbox controller ports form eBay and stuck them in a project box with a USB hub from poundland.

I definitely want the Xbox "S" Controller (the smaller one)

If it has a proprietry connector on the end I therefore need to convert it to usb I assume?

Asim18 mentioned soldering or"modding" which I really don't feel like doing.

Why does the "S" controller seem to be more difficult to connect to a PC than the "normal" xbox controller? Surely they both have the same connector?

I need someone to tell me like I'm a five year old :-)

Thanks

BB

Not sure which controllers other people are talking about, but I use two wired 360 controllers, work amazingly without a hub on the usb ports on my case.

Both the original xbox's controllers are USB devices, but have their own proprietary connectors on the end of the cable.

The original Xbox controller and the "S" controller are both the same in terms of connecting them to a PC. GUIDE HERE

The Xbox 360 controller is a certified USB product, so it has a normal USB connector on the end and is plug and play.

I think I have made a failry embarrasing gaffe here (blush)

I've never even played a 360 before, so I coudn't even visualise what the connectors looked like. When I've been googling all types of pads, it never occored to me that the "s" controllers are probably for the orginal XBOX and not the XBOX 360??

If it is, this is the part where I get my coat and run screaming into traffic.

I also am assuming that all XBOX controllers were proprietry and all XBOX 360 controllers are USB? That would explain my childlike confusion.

Can somebody explain if I'm right (at last) and can just buy any 360 comtroller and essentially plug n play?

A thousand apologies :s

Yes. All the XBOX controllers have the same proprietary connector on them.

All XBOX 360 controllers have normal USB connectors on them and are plug and play with Vista and 7.

:D

If you did want to try and get the original controller working then the soldering mod isn't that difficult, you just need a spare printer cable.

You could even buy an adapter off the 'bay for £1.89 with free postage from Hong Kong, search for 'SB Cable Adapter Converter for XBOX Controller to PC'
