Charge kit does not work on PC you need this or see if you can buy the wireless USB receiver on its own but not sure they make it anymore as a standalone only woth the wireless 360 controller as well.

Ah I know about the wireless receiver so guess thatll be the option :(

Just seems a bit stupid because the play and charge kit works fine on the Xbox so it does carry data, just clearly not understood by windows. Even though when I plug it in, it knows exactly what device it is :S

The play and charge lead carries NO data, even when you plug it into your Xbox it's still running on wireless.

Windows just sees that you have plugged a USB lead in, there is nothing coming from the other end to tell it to do anything.

You could look to get a cheap wired 360 controller to use on your PC. It's what I have, and it's handy to have around just in case my wireless 360 controlller breaks, so I'll always have a spare.

I got a couple of controllers already, all wireless though so dont actually need another spare haha. Will look into it though, tbh I think I might prefer having a wireless controller for the PC. I honestly dont think I need another wire coming out the back! lol

Using some Saitek pos that is sketchy at best, makes me want to buy a proper steering column :D
