Hi all, has anyone had any experience of getting a new controller under warranty?

I hardly use my XBOX, probably used it once in the last 6 months. Its under a year old and I went to turn it on yesterday and it wouldn't fire up via the controller - weird I thought so I changed the batteries and still nothing.

I turned the machine on manually and everything was hunky dory so looks like my controller has just died for no reason. I got in touch with MS support and they said they will replace it for free with a brand new one, however I had to post the broken one back to them. Fair enough I thought until I got the email with an address in the Czech Republic to send it back to!

Is it just me that thinks it is unreasonable to ask you to send a controller back to them at your own cost in Czech Republic? I could probably buy a brand new one for the price of sending it back. Surely they should have local offices to sort this out?!

I had to send my old console there when it RROD.

However it was all covered by them when I printed the returns label off, is it different for controllers?

Do you not arrange collection with a courier?

It would need to be sent insured and recorded so a bit more than £3.50.

No, they haven't provided a pre printed label to send it back :(

This may sound stupid but you say the console wouldnt fire up via the controller and not that the controller is dead.

If the controller has power, have you tried re-syncing (pairing) it with the console ?

Duration
Without prejudice to any statutory warranty to which You may be entitled under any local law applicable to You, and unless any such law provides for a longer term, Microsoft offers this Warranty, for a term of one (1) year from the purchase date of such Xbox 360 E or Kinect Sensor from an authorized retailer, and 90 days for Accessories.

90 days for Accessories, the probelm being, who's to say you havent dropped, chucked the pad !! it's hard to prove, same goes for most TV warranties, remotes are not covered due to misuse.

The controller just isnt getting power at all. Its completely dead, no lights or anything!

They've said they'll swap it for free under warranty, thats not the issue. My issue is having to send it back to Czech Republic to get a replacement!

The options are:
  • Buy a new controller
  • Send the broken one to the Czech Republic
Option two is considerably cheaper if it's an official wireless controller, I don't see the problem. I'm sure you will be able to claim back the postage costs, alternatively get in touch with them and ask them for a returns label.

If its less than 12 months old take it back to the retailer

Oh and whoever posted the 90 day microshaft thing above, that wouldn't be compatible with UK sale of goods act
