Been looking for a while but cannot find the answer to my question...

I have an Elite at the moment and I have just pre-ordered the new XBOX Slim, I want to keep both consoles and have one upstairs and one downstairs.

But because the new 360 will have a totally different shape HDD how will I go about making sure that both consoles are always up to date with my gamertag & saved games? Can the new Slim still connect to the old hard drive? Or will I have to constantly update both consoles with a USB dongle?

Yep, will end up being a right ball ache, then you will need to retireve your gamer tag on the console each time as well.

I would have thought they may have included a better system for people who would want more than one console and that both are not the new slim. May cancel the pre-order...

Make sure you save your save games and profile on to the USB stick? Seems highly logical to me. Just use the HDD to store disc images and downloads? After all, you can only play one console at a time.

One of my mates has this problem but gets around it quite easily.

Basically you can save your profile to a memory card and your profile moves around with you. If you save your save games to the memory card as well then they could come with you as well.

Of course the memory cards for the 360 are pretty small and expensive. But the recent update that lets you format a memory stick, up to 16GB, means this is much more practical.

So you wouldn't "constantly update both consoles with a USB dongle", the USB dongle would be your hard drive that you can easily move about. The one restriction being that you couldn't play on both 360 with the same profile, which you can't do anyway I don't think...

What the two people above said :)

I switch between two consoles regularly and just keep my gamertag and save files on a memory card. No problems at all.

Ahhh I see...I think I was getting confused as I thought each console would have to download the profile each time? But if it can be stored on the USB that thats problem solved..

Still a pain if you ask me.. I don't know why they couldn't adopt the same policy as Sony... Worst is Nintendo by far.. They won't even let you switch consoles full stop ! If you do you lose all your VC content..

I guess they 'hope' people buy all their games all over again.. Fat greedy corporate pen pushers running that place.

Dumb question, but where does the XBOX 360 Memory unit fit into? the controller or console? and what size are they? 512mb ? What happens if your profile grows larger.

I have a slim, and was thinking about getting a 2nd for the living room, but not if i've got to plug in some ugly white piece of plastic into a nice glossy black console everytime..

Woudn't a USB pen work in exactly the same way?? Are there any concerns with wait times on loading up the profile?
