I'm getting round to buying a 360, and just wondered what you guys and gals thought about its ability to play the original xbox games?

Is it any good?

Reason I ask is I was reading an article about the 360's hardware and its got nothing in common with the original xbox, and so apparently it has to emulate the old xbox via software, I just wondered if its good at doing this or a bit naff? For example can I play Halo 2 with any sort of improvement or is it just as it was on the old xbox, or worse?

Thanks
Mick

The only xbox title I've played on it is Rocky Legends, and it was perfect, as far as I could see.

This link lists all compatible games.

EDIT: You do need the hard drive for the 360 though.

Almost all emulated games will be upscaled to HiDef and are given a touch of AA and AF. Halo 2 looks fantastic on it, though you will experience some slowdown. How much depends on how well the game is being emulated.

On the most part, it's fantastic.

I've checked out that list before, and its great to see so many games supported.

I'm amazed that Halo2 suffers from slowdown tho

I suppose as time goes by the software will get better, thats if the support lasts long enough for it to mature.

So its not time to chop all my games in just yet ;)

Splinter Cell chaos theory looks stunning - almost looks next gen. The games it does emultae seem to work well, its just the lack of them thats dissapointing.

I've played a number of Xbox games on the 360, and all run perfectly except for Ninja Gaiden, which experiences some slowdown. Other confirmed games to experience a few problems are Fable and Kotor. However, I believe MS are continually working on the emulator and we may well see these problems wiped out in future releases.

I know what you mean, i really want rally sport challenge 2 to play

The game i'd most like to see is Outrun 2 as i think it will look stunning at 720p with AA. What Microsoft really need to do is sort out the problem that people are having with the VGA cable when trying to use emulation.

Yep, the list is pretty much definitive.

In my opinion, yes. Problem? I couldn't care if you disagree.

I was asking because I have heard a lot of people complain about BC, so for you to say it was fantastic surprised me :) We all want to give the OP an accurate answer don't we.

Ninja Gaiden runs slow and Full Spectrum Warrior doesnt run at all.

The only two games I have remaining from xbox 1.

Cool, I'll have to try NG and NGB tonight to see if they've improved the speed at all on them. Good to see Black on there as well, I enjoyed the demo I played and wouldn't mind getting it to play on the 360.

I rented Outrun 2 but was not impressed with anything about it, seemed very much like a late 90s arcade game in look, feel, music etc - I guess that is precisely what it is supposed to do though.
However after lots of PGR3 and Full Auto I just couldn't get into outrun2.

My old Xbox does do 720p output (all non pal units did, or non uk).
I did not think to try it out on the 360 though, so it might look better on that.
