Having a few problems with my 360 with regards to using it as a media extender. Whenever I play a file it stops and starts constantly only playing around about 5 secs of video file before pausing for up to 1 min.

This happens with both TVersity and using Media Centre via Vista. This makes watching any of the video files I have impossible.

My initial assumption was that this was caused by the fact that the xbox being wirelessly connected simply can't cope with the amount of data being sent on a consistent basis - the walls where the xbox is are thick and full of water pipes which gives a medium connection at best.

So then the fun starts. Unplug everything wireless and throw a hard wired connection straight in the back. Nothing.

I run the diagnostics test and it works out that the connection is wired. However it fails on IP Address. Checking out the options on the xbox reveals that the IP it has been assigned by the router (DG834) starts 169.254 which is just a little wrong since all the other IP's it hands out start 192.168

Manually configuring an IP & Subnet along with specifying a gateway does nothing to aid the situation and the tests still fail.

Anyone seen these kind of problems before or know of a solution? My xbox did once work wired but not anymore....

Thats my thoughts since the wireless adapter gets it's IP ok and my 3 PC's are picking up IP's correctly.

Just working out what exactly that problem could be is driving me a bit crazy :(
