You can, but it converts at a much worse rate than letting the subscription expire and then converting Gold Codes to GP Ultimate.

The rate varies but with 12 months of XBLG added to an existing sub is 4 months of GP Ultimate, for example. I think the plan would be to buy XBLG codes now and hold onto them in the hope that MS still does the 3:2 conversion in the future.

Does it though, I don’t think there is much in it now vs letting it expire and topping up? 12 month codes seem best to let it expire though I think, but getting cheap 3 month codes is worthwhile topping up when you can.

Unless my maths is off it's about half the rate of letting it expire before redeeming the 3 yrs worth of XBLG codes. The 3 months codes would have to be really cheap. Obviously redeeming MS Rewards points for 3 x months XBLG codes is different because that's effectively 'free'.

Here is good comparison based on current prices as you can see the difference is not that big. Got this from someone else’s post.
Ok it’s still an extra 130 days though, but it’s not night and day like it used to be. The other day cdkeys had 3 month codes for £7

Gold:

3 x 12 month = 3 x 35.99 = £107.97
converted to ultimate thats 730 days

12 x 3 month = 12 x 7.99 = £95.88
converted to ultimate thats 600 days

Fair point, although I do think that comes back to the discount on the 3 month codes being way higher than the discount on the 12 month codes.

Yeah for sure, all comes down to price as well, I’m just going check every now and again for good deals.
Just letting it expire is not such a big thing as it once was with the 1:1 conversion.

Yes. £7 is a massive saving on the UK RRP (although where CD Keys are sourcing those from). And you still use those to do the 3:2 conversion. I didn't fully clock there is such a variance in conversation rate when adding XBLG to an active sub. i.e. 12mth vs 3mth etc.

As you say the withdrawal of the 1:1 deal has changed things. And even then we still don't know if the new GP Core will convert in the same way.

I had ultimate until July 2025, got 2 of the 3 month codes at £6.99 each the other day and that boosted my sub until November 2025, for just £13.98. No idea where they source from but they always seem to fluctuate from £8.50 to £7.
As you say with gold changing to core it’s all up in the air.
 
I hadn’t used my Xbox since I bought a ps5 months ago. Did that gold conversion the other day and got two years of GPU for $270. Paid an extra $1 to activate it and got an extra month. Great. Expires August 2025.
Turned on the Xbox yesterday to try it and needed a 4gb update to the OS. Fine. Went back to it later last night (after a few beers mind) to download Exoprimal and only found an option to join GP even though I’d been a subscriber previously on the Home Screen so joined. Got debited $18.95 but still couldn’t figure a way to access it other than clicking the join button again. Debited another $18.95 and pushed out my expire date October 2025. :mad:
I figured it out eventually.

Word of warning there to any other inebriated and impatient noobs :D. Presume I’ll not be able to get a refund?

Also am I right in thinking GP works on PC too? Is it part of the same subscription?
Ive not had a home PC for years but my work situation is hopefully changing soon and I’ll need to buy my own laptop. Need one that can easily handLe complex construction 3d models so will likely buy a gaming laptop.

It doesn’t make much odds, if you can get cheap 3 month codes. I got some for £7 the other day from cdkeys and just added them for 50days extra to my ultimate sub.

If you have Ultimate you can use on Xbox and PC
 
My GPU expired recently went with -

3 x !2 months xbox live gold Turkey (£73.47) , from cdkeys , used urban vpn and activated at redeem.microsoft.com
1 Month Game pass ultimate ( £7.99) from cdkeys activated on normal uk account.

Aceppted conversion to GPU and Auto rebilling for free 1 month.
Turned Off Auto Rebilling

So around £82 for 2 years GPU with new conversion which is still pretty decent.
