xbox live account on memstick, gamertag on HDD

OK my xbox has died so I'm looking for a core to replace it with. I've got my gamertag stored on my HDD. I've seen a 2nd hand core with a memory card with 11 months xbox live on it.

Soooo, does anyone know if there is any way I could use the live account on the memory card but play with my gamertag on my hdd?

The live account/gamertag is the same thing (or do you have 2 separate ones?)

You can move the gamertag from the HDD to memory card via the system blade.
 
The thing is that I've got my gamertag on a HDD with all my saves etc. Someone is selling an xbox with a memory card with their gamertag which has 11 months live sub on it.

I'm wondering if I can use the xbox live sub from his gamertag but use my actual gamertag.

Hard to explain really,

No,

The Live Sub is linked with the Gamertag so no.

Why not just stick your HDD in his Core?
 
That was the plan. My xbox is dead so I'm after a replacement console. This one just happens to come with 11 months live sub on a memory card (mine expired recently). I just want to be able to use my gamertag profile.

You can use your gamertag fine, but when you get a Sub it ties in with your gamer tag, so you can't take his 11month Sub and use your gamertag with it, if you wanted to use it you would have to use HIS gamertag online.

Gamertag ties in with live so are essentially the same thing
