Hi everyone,

im hoping some kind sole can help me. im having some serious issues getting my 360 connected to my wireless network. Over the last week of so when running the "test your live connection" it finds the 360 wireless adaptor plugged in but wont connect to my network. When i do a search on the console for available wireless networks it can see my network fine, (3 out of 4 bar strength). i have tried connecting the 360 with encrtion on and off on the router but doesnt seem to work either way. It has worked fine in the past but doesnt seem to like to connect anymore??!!

Can anyone suggest anything to resolve this before i go mad

does it work okay if you plug the network cable in directly?

I havent been able to try that as the 360 and router arent in the same room and i dont have a cable long enough and if i move the 360 to the same room i have no monitor to connect it to as only have component lead whoch non have my pc monitors have this connection.

Linksys wrt300n

DOubt it helps but I bought this router and promptly sent it back as the wireless on it was next to hopeless, and that was just with a laptop. The router also repeatedly crashed and I has to power cycle it to get online again.

Got a D-Link DIR-655 instead which was more expensive but well worth it, rock solid and fast.

Have to say mine has been perfectly fine, never had any issues with it.

Right, a small update, i have had my friend test my xbox with my wireless adaptor on his network, connecting to a netgear dg834g v2 and it connects fine, no issues at all. So this is making me think its some kind of wierd incompatibility with my router, now that i know my xbox hardware works perfectly.

Any suggestions or thoughts on this at all people?

What if you take the router to the xbox - you don't need an internet connection to test the wireless...

While you're at it, make sure the WRT350N isn't set to 802.11n-only (unless the 360 adapter does 802.11n, AFAIK it doesn't).

Hi Tolien, thanks for moving this thread in here and thanks for the advice.

First of all i have been into the wireless settings in the router config pages and there doesnt seem to be any options to change it from 802.11b/g/n. What i have found in the settings help is the following........

Network Mode
The default is Mixed. You can also disable wireless connectivity completely. This might be useful during system maintenance.

Radio Band
You can select the channel bandwidth manually for Wireless-N connections. When it is set to 20MHz, only the 20MHz channel is used. When it is set to 40MHz, Wireless-N connections will use 40MHz channel but Wireless-B and Wireless-G will still use 20MHz channel.

Wide Channel
If you select the 40MHz Channel as the channel bandwidth, the Wireless Router will ask you to select a number of Wide Channel and the adjacent 20MHz channel to combine them into a wider channel.

Standard Channel
Select the appropriate channel from the list provided to correspond with your network settings. If you select the 20MHz Channel as the channel bandwidth, the default channel is 6. All devices in your wireless network must broadcast on the same channel in order to communicate.

The router is set to broadcast on standard channel 6 - 2.437ghz. I looked on the xbox to see what channel that is set to but cant find any options for this anywhere?? I will take the router to the xbox first thing tomorrow morning to test connecting to it in the same room.

Will update shortly.

As promised, here is the update. I have moved the router (wrt300n) to the same room as my 360. the 360 can still see the network, this time it gets a full 4 bar signal strength instead of 3 bars. but still fails to connect to the network.

When i plugged the 360 into the router via a network cable it passes the tests fine apart fromt he obvious internet related ones as when the router is on my room its not connected to the the internet.

This to me looks like some very strange wireless issue. Any ideas? Maybe a compatibility issue or something im not sure.

Hrm, I guess the WRT doesn't have an n-only option then.

So when it "fails to connect", what happens? Is it getting an IP from the router or anything?
