Xbox Live - Downgrading to Silver?

Daft question, but how exactly do you do this?

I'm paying monthly for gold at the moment and I cant see anywhere to change to Silver, so it is just a case of changing my CC details so that they are 'wrong'?

I believe you phone Microsoft and tell them.
Why have I never seen you playing on Xbox Live! if you've had Gold all this time?

Bah, well thats stupid then. Why cant they just provide an option via marketplace?

As for not seeing me on Live, I've never really been a multiplayer game fan. Only reason I have a Gold sub is to get the other benefits from it, plus the option to play online is there if I really want to.

I think the reason there isn't an option to do this on marketplace is because it must be very rare for someone to want to actually downgrade their service. I certainly wouldn't think it happens often enough to warrant its own section on marketplace.

Still, I'm sure it would be simple enough to implement. Less hassle for them to allow people to do it online rather than wasting resources on phone calls I would have thought?

I believe if you log into your account passport thing that your gamertag is assigned to it will tell you there.. as it does say you can cancel it there but instead gives you a number to ring.
