Xbox LIVE free Gold trial

Right, I am in a bit of a dilemma.
I bought a new 360 elite on monday, though didn't get a chance to test it out until last night.
Now in my haste, I created a new xbox live account through the xbox website, before doing anything through the 360.
So if I want to get the free trial of gold, I will have to create a new account through the 360, with a different gamertag, and live ID.
I phoned M$ about 20 mins ago, told them the situation, and asked if it was possible to delete the live account I made online, so I can use the same tag and live ID to create a new account through the 360.
They said it was not possible. =/
It seems the choices I have left are:
-Create a new windows live ID, and use that together with a new gamertag, to create a new xbox live account through the 360.
-Forget the trial, and just use my current account and pay for 12 months of gold live.

What is a good course of action in this situation?
 
if you really want your gamertag you made, then you'll just have to forget the trial.

i didnt use the trial on my gamertag because i wanted to keep my gamertag.
 
Hmm, I suppose if I pay for £40, 12 months gold, I'll only be paying roughly £3.33 extra, for the month I would have got free. Thats a petty value to worry over, so think I'll take that route ;)

Shop around - don't just pay via the 360 dashboard at 40 quid...

34.99 from most retailers online for the scratch card, and a couple % cashback if you use quidco.
