XBox Live - Noob Help

Got my Xbox today and got it set up ok and all working. I've just bought a 12 month sub but I'm supposed to get 1 month as well aren't I? How do I claim this month? Is there a code in the box somewhere or does it start as soon as I create my gamertag? Does it say anywhere in my tag what live package I'm on?

I think what you are supposed to do is create a silver account then it gives you a one month gold trial then add on you'r sub in a couple of days/when it runs out.

When you create your gamertag on your xbox, it'll ask you what type of account you want. Select sliver, then the next screen shows you're eligiable for the free month and it automatically upgrades your account.

You don't even need to wait. Once you've got the free month going, add the 12 months and it'll just tack the subscription on to the end.

Just had a look at my account and it says I have silver membership but it doesn't give me the option to have a trial. Have I done something wrong?

If I select any of the options it asks for my payment details. I've bought a 12 month sub but don't want to use it till I know the 1 month trial is up and running.
