Just managed to pick one of these up cheap second hand and some games that work online but im very confused as to how I sort out getting on Live. All the subscription things I see are for the 360 and im not sure what to do, the official site doesn't really help as its 360 focused now. Any help would be appreciated, I know ages ago there were 12 month subs for the original for like £19.99 around but I can't find any anymore.

It isn't silly, iirc is is called a 'Live sub' not an 'xbox live 360 sub'?

All those starter kits are long gone mate

It is because the original subscriptions cost a lot less than the new ones do, seems microsoft shoul really still allow for people to be buying old xbox's and being able to just pay for a sub for them, I picked up Halo2 so that would have been nice to play online if it was cheap but im not taking out a full sub just for that

Microsoft don't produce the old xbox anymore, and iirc they don't put out new titles for it, and their support will be very very limited.

99.9% of Live users wanted to be able to move as seamlessly as possible from the xbox to the xbox 360, and MS are trying to use Live on the PC too. The only way to do that is 1 subscription type. It makes a lot of sense.
If not people like yourself would get a xbox, take out an xbox Live sub, then 3 months later decide you want a 360, then bitch about not being able to use your same logon.

They want a unified service, gamers want a unified service, we have a unified service. It is not often you will find me sticking up for MS but this is one of the times i think they are 100% spot on.

Ask for a 2 month trial code on here, i am sure someone will have one laying around. I will even check when i get home to see if the ones i have have expired, if not, you are welcome to it. :)

But I wouldn't bitch about it, I'm planning on getting a 360 but I don't know when yet so it's not worth taking out a live sub yet which is kind of annoying really, it'd be nice if MS supplied like a £5 per year option for people still on the original xbox or something, it just seems abit mean to offer one option and one only.

I'd be very grateful if anyone does have a trial code, very grateful indeed!

My subscription has been the same price for the entire life of my account from the may after live started to now. I'm billed yearly at £40.. you could get it cheaper if you bought the sub cards from elsewhere too.

You used to be able to get the starter kits for £20 that came with the 12 month sub and also certain games we're knocking around for <£20 which came with the 12 month one too, shame theyre non-existent now :(

£5 a year?! Its been £40 a year standard for ages, IIRC those starter packs used to cost about £60 RRP (I think my PGR2 starter kit was that much)? Only reason they dropped in price was demand and is what retailers did.

I dont see the difference, Live is Live. If you just want to try it, buy a 3 month code or something.

Yes, whats so amazingly distubing about the idea of MS providing a cheap option for regular xbox owners? It makes perfect sense  I did just say in my last post I'd appreciate a trial if anyones got one about

But as its universal, how would they stop 360 owners using it?

And I don't see why you should pay less, its the same service after all. I doubt you'll find people on many games other than Halo 2 tbh.

Thats why I said it'd be nice if there was an Original XBOX only live system, like perhaps certain codes for live that only worked on the old xbox's that were cheaper. I know there's pretty much only halo 2 thats why I don't see the point in a full subscription ;)

Well the fact that you were mentioning £20 year long packs made me assume you'd want a bit longer. I've got 48 hour codes if you want.

Well thats what I was originally looking for, I'd appreciate any codes to give it a spin yeh :)
