Just turned my 360 on for the first time in a week and there is an update to be downloaded for me to sign onto Xbox Live.

No problem I thought, but as it starts to download I get this error:

Can't download the update. Please test your connection in System, Network Settings and try again.

Anyone else having problems with this?

Heres a fix for the problem.

Symptoms

When you navigate to the "Marketplace" area in the Xbox 360 Dashboard, you see this message:

Xbox Live Marketplace is currently unavailable. Please check back later.

Things to Try

Delete any local copies of the "Marketplace Data" System Item, and restart the Dashboard:

In the Xbox 360 Dashboard, navigate to the "System" area and select "Memory", select "All Devices" (or the connected Storage Device) and select "System Items".
Select "Marketplace Data", select "Delete" and confirm.
Restart the Xbox 360 Dashboard and navigate back to Marketplace.
