Xbox live vs Playstation Network

Hey guys,

It was very obvious that Xbox live on 360 was a lot better experience than Playstation network on the ps3 in terms of multiplayer games, social integration and party chat but I am hoping Playstation improves it on the ps4 because it doesn't matter how cheaper, less restrictions it has if multiplayer isn't good I personally don't want it.

What are your thoughts on this? Anyone know what ps4 is doing?

Cheers

Apart from party chat, inviting/joining system, achievement viewing etc the actual multiplaying wasn't all that different. Played COD across both platforms fine, gears, uncharted etc all online and the actual multiplayer part is near identical.

Issue for the PS3 was simply not enough ram reserved for OS, not many people had a mic (as wasn't bundled) OS was slow as hell whilst in game etc but with the PS4 non of this will be an issue.

XB1 will probably still be slicker but the gap certainly will be closer.

PSN definitely isn't as good as Xbox Live at the moment. But MS had a massive head start on Sony due to Live with the original Xbox(i've no idea what it was like though as I had a PS2).
I'm convinced that PSN will be massively improved for the PS4. Sony know what they need to do to improve it and they've said that the mandatory fee for PSN+ will be used to improve PSN.

"If we keep giving away online access for free, the natural pressure is that we have to cut down on the cost to provide this free service. But that's conflicting with our goal of being able to provide very robust and great online services going forward. So we decided that on PS4, because we want to continue to invest and improve our new services, we've asked the most engaged consumers in the online activities to share the burden with us so that we can continue to invest."

I've played quite a few games on PSN and they all run perfectly fine. I played a fair bit of MW2 and that was the same as on Xbox Live. The only issues were inviting friends to join you and a lack of party chat.

Well PSN is now going to be paid for, so really it has to improve, cant get away with what we used to say on the PS3. Whether it will be all bells and whistles but not much better when you drill down remains to be seen...

Party Chat was really the only caveat for me when gaming online with the PS3. Like has been said the majority of the online experience is identical, save for more talking on xbl due to the bundled headsets.

But being able to arrange parties before beginning a multiplayer session was much more convenient. This extends also to when someone drops out of a lobby or gets kicked from a game; you can still talk to them and find out what happened or even if they decide themselves to play something different. This used to happed a lot in my COD days on PS3...

Xbox Live is better.

I'd assume it will still be the case next gen, but reckon PSN will be vastly improved.
This. I'd imagine Sony will be going hell for leather to make PSN at least on a par with Xbox Live, if not surpass it, though of course MS will be trying to improve Xbox Live as well. I'm certainly interested to see how each will work as I was never a fan of PSN that much, though that could be I was a heavy Xbox user so found the PSN interface very clunky at first.

I dont think theyll surpass it, MS have allocated more resources both with XO memory and online servers, and the small nuances Sony will miss in development will be annoyances in usage...

I just hope they dont mess up the UI too much, I love the XMB

Playstation has never been good with multiplayer and the social aspect of gaming I really doubt it will be improved even if it costs us.. Xbox is definitely better in that regards

I can't see own keeping up with xbox. PSN may well achieve 360 level, but then with multiple OSs and the support xbone will get from ein8 and Ms other services, I can see Psn getting further behind on the extras. It's just do you want/need those extras and for the extra cost.

It will obviously be improved, the real question is whether it will be on par with XBL. The integration with the rest of the system certainly seems to be there with the PS4.

It should be much better purely because it's part of the early development process, when PS3 was released Sony didn't have most of those features in mind and they had to bodge it all in later using presumably very limited hardware resources (ROM size/system memory) and all that without breaking any existing games.

They will presumably dedicate a certain amount of resources this time around allowing the UI designers to be more creative whilst leaving plenty of room for future improvements.

It seems to be utterly random but I do hope that by the time the PS4 rolls around that downloading is a bit quicker from PSN. I'm currently counting in days to download 12GB of game on the latest PS+ deal :(

Exactly Xbox can download 1gb in the time the PS3 does 200mb, it's a joke! Both wired to same router, PSN needs to get a lot faster for ps4
