Hello there guys, i have a friend who wants to get his son Xbox live, but doesnt know how much it costs or how to get started etc, i dont have it either, but i was wondering if you guys could give me some info on whats needed and how much it costs etc. Thanks :)

Its dead easy.

He needs to get the console onto the network for internet access. This can be done by connecting the 360 to a router, or using internet connection sharing via a PC. Wireless access will require a wireless adapter.

1. Connect internet cabling
2. Go to your System blade and under network select 'test internet connection' to make sure your on *** network
3. Go to the Xbox Live blade
4. Select create a Live account
5. Follow the on screen walkthrough
6. Connect to live, and your away

When you first create a gamertag, you get a months free gold access, after that its £39.99 for a years access at most retailers, but it can be had cheaper. The gold subscription is what you need to be able to play games online.

12 Month cards (or 12+ 1 Halo cards) can be had for less than £39.99 (Microsoft's RRP and the cost if you pay via the dashboard) at various e-tailers. In addition you can buy 3 months via the dashboard and/or cards and 1 month by dashboard only. Paying month by month or quarterly is more expensive over 12 months than buying a 12 month card in the beginning.

Broadband is required though a bog standard 512k down/256k up connection will be fine for gaming (though obviously slower for downloads).
