Hi all

I read theses forums a lot but don't post much, I was looking for some help/advice.

I downloaded Trials HD on Saturday night and not long after playing it my XBOX started locking up, I tried a couple of other games and got the same result.

I deleted it from my Harddrive and re-downloaded it and the problem went away until today, now my XBOX locks up on any game I try and has locked up on the dashboard a couple of times.

When the console locks up there is no rrod, no artifacts on display, it just stops responding. Do I have a dead/dieing console or could it be linked to the Harddrive?

Thanks
Wardyp.

Thats how mine started, eventually it wouldnt boot at all and i got the dreaded RROD. Had it replaced by MS even though it was a couple of months out of warranty.

Could you try a few games without the HDD and maybe save to a USB device?

I tried the console on saturday night without the HDD plugged in & it worked fine, this is what lead me to believe the Trials HD file was corrupt but I tried the same thing tonight but it made no difference

make sure your console is well ventilated, i also sit mine on top of a laptop cooler, even though its a brand new jasper (the special elite one), all 360's have a nack of getting the RROD (ive had a few in the past myself).

and as C64 said, the weather has been pretty hot lately, and the consoles dont like this. sounds like yours could be on its way out.

i remember playing forza 2 years ago and the track and scenery just dissapeared, less then a week later the 3 red lights.

Does it work if you are disconnected from live? Are you downloading anything? demos videos etc?

I remember having a very similar sounding problem, it was caused by a corrupt video. I deleted it but for some reason kept trying to download itself again.

My money is on overheating due to ambient temps. My GPU hit 66'c the other night because of the temp in the office, it went really screwy and I ended up having to oven bake it.

How old is it? I'd recommend taking it apart, putting the dvd drive over the side and pointing a desk fan at the heatsinks. Wouldn't do this though if it's within the RROD warranty.

My Jasper 360 has started locking up and last night gave me the RROD... Thought these were meant to be better its only 5 months old.. Going back to game later to have it swapped...

All 360's are the same, I have 7 in my house, 1 works and the others are all in various states of repair.

It's heat that is the killer, and this warm weather isn't helping. I've been reading on the new one and these ones now shut down to prevent heat damage, which says to me, heat is the problem they just haven't been able to fix it.

As it's 5 months old return it, Game might tell you to contact MS about it. On warm days, look at using a desk fan to blow air over the console to try and help cool it.

I know they use those shoddy heatsinks and fans to keep costs down but surely would be better to use a slightly better one so there's less xbox's being sent back.Xbox and ps3 should have bigger cases with 120mm fans and a 120mm fan on the cpu heatsink too.

New xbox collected it has a manufacturing date of 04/09 so its 5 months older than the one i took in although was new out the box..

Good thing it works fine and is also quite a bit quiter than the last one so i,m happy....

Wow. is your new one a jasper?

Yeah its 12.1A and has 355mb of onboard memory.. My last one was 09/09.. So its 5 months older than the one i took in.. lol

Its considerably quiter though so i,m happy to keep it.. Apparantly they dont sell many arcades hence the older stock.

My XBOX finally gave up it's battle and RROD on me, so back to MS it goes!

doh!

you would have thought the number of faulting 360 consoles to RROD would have been sorted by now, which is what i thought the jasper chipsets were supposed to take care of!

dammit Microsoft, sort it out :o
