Xbox Membership..Gold and Silver

My membership lapsed in December (Xmas Day) and I havent got round to renewing it yet, but should it revert to silver status, and how do I know.

I can't sign in or do much with it at the mo?

I guess the easiest way would be to login to the xbox website and your gamercard should be either silver or gold

It should have been reverted, however when I left mine expired for a month or so back in January it didn't, I did get weekly emails about renewing though.

Mine never reverted, I had to contact Microsoft and talk to their advisers because they locked my account.
