Just recieved my xbox back after its 3rd repair in a year to find they have replaced it with a 'replacement unit.

Looked on the website and found the warranty only lasts for 3 months!!!!

It was Manufactured 10/10/2008 so surely I should have the full 3yrs warranty on it? Shouldn't I?

Also what cpu will be in this one?

Thanks in advance guys

Nope I've asked them. The warranty goes from the date of your original console. You get 3 years from that date not the new console. I have had the same thing.

To extend the warranty each year its £24.

Well that's crap don't you think!!!!!

Surely it should go from date of manufacture of the refurbished xbox?

Think I may have to get in touch with MS and if no joy then go to trading standards

If you think thats bad, I got my Xbox about 6 months ago, I registered the serial number and it says the warranty expires in March 2009!!

problem being  unless your 6 months is accurate? you sure its not more like 9?

standard warranty is 12 months, RROD problems are covered for 3 years

Why? You've paid for the warranty on the first console? Why would they cover you for another full three years? You could continue getting Xboxs long, long after the first one would have been considered worn out doing this.

I know it sounds harsh, but it just doesn't make any business sense to do that. :(

Ahh you're probably right. It was probably manufactured around then but I purchased it in May sometime, and they've begun the Warranty from manufature date.

Does this mean that I still get 2 years RROD after March 09?

You get a 1 year warranty from general failures and a 3 year warranty from the date of purchase of the ORIGINAL 360. If it were the case that your warranty would get refreshed every time you got a replacement unit everyone would be pouring water into em or sticking gaffer tape over the air intakes just before the warranty expiry date in an effort to get a new warranty.

The replacement unit does come with 3 months, however if your original warranty has longer left on it than that then that will take precedence.

Let's hope this one is one of those 1 in a million consoles that last longer than the norm.

Also, as it was made on 10/10/2008 will it have the smaller micron CPU and GPU in it?

Your replacement console will either be a Falcon revision (with HDMI) or Opus revision (Falcon revision without the HDMI port) depending on what you sent in for repair.

The Opus revision is the Falcon board with the HDMI plug removed so as to fit into the older Xenon/Zephyr console shells.

it looks like it must be the Opus then as it has no HDMI port. So should run cooler then I guess?

What is the Ampage on the back?

If it is 16.XA then you've got the older 90nm, if it is 14.X then you've got a Falcon 65nm (CPU), if it is 12.XA then its the Jasper 65nm (CPU & GPU).

so basically when the 360 breaks, ring MS get a years warranty for £24 and then a few days later send it in for a red ring error? result:)
