My old Xbox (crystal green, original, yay me) is acting up - the power button wrorks probably about 50% of the time to turn on, and it powers down frequently in the middle of games.
It sounds like the sort of lose connection issue that could be fixed by opening it up...but before I do that.....any thoughts?

It could be a duff power supply, could be a duff power switch, could be quite a few things to be honest.
How long have you had it and where did you buy it?

Thanks for reply.
Had it about 18months, bought s/hand from a games specialist.
Its been flaky off and on since I bought it, but has now deteriorated to the point that its almost unplayable.
No chance of a warranty repair I would have thought.

As you bought it second hand i think it unlikely that you'll be able to get it repaired for free.
There are a few online repair houses for the Xbox but we can't link them here as they sell "enhancements" that are a bit dubious.

One thing that some xboxes were prone to was a dry joint at the power cable to power supply PCB. Basically unplugging them and replugging them resulted in a fracture on the solder joints of the power PCB and then they started doing similar things to yours.

Has it ever been opened before? Do you know how to open it up? There are plenty of sites carrying all the details you need on the net.
