Hey all , i've decided that it is time i put an extra HDD on my xbone.

What would you recommend i go for ? I assume obviously i should go for a USB 3.0 fitting drive.

Can i buy pretty much any HDD or is there only certain ones that will work with it ?

Cheers for any advice!

I had this same question a few weeks back and after much researching about which is the best I finally bought the Samsung M3 3.0 1TB ** Removed **

** Removed **

Recommended.

** No competitors and their prices **

I think as long as it's 320GB+ and USB3, then owt will pretty much work. Might nab another one of those Elements 2TB drives myself for the XBone, as the 640 I've got connected now is getting a little full...

Yeah it should be fine and has decent reviews.

My son will be glad as we had to delete a few games to get any new games on!

To Hijack a thread a little (just got my XBone woot) and wondered what the extra storage can be used fr.

Can i install games to it?

Thanks

Yes that's exactly what I'm using it for.
My xbone has 500gb and after installing only a few games it was full.

To install games to it you need to let the xbone format it.
You can install upto 3 external drives, if you dont let the xbox format them then they can only be used for pics, videos etc and not games.

thanks guys.

Is there any limit to drive size?

I was considering just purchasing a 5TB drive and a USB3 caddy?

Thanks again

Oh and one other thing, do i buy a drive that requires an external power supply or one that's powered by the port?

Thanks again

The higher TB drives have an increased rate of failure, so go down that route at your own risk.

Personally, I went with 1TB only and will get another 1TB when filled, to hot swap. If I lose data, it's 1 TB to download again, and swapping isn't hard.

I am using a 1TB portable drive, save faffing with wires and adding more power drain when my Xbox is on idle during TV time.
