XBOX One Fan Noise

Hi all,

Got my xbox one for Christmas and am quite annoyed by the loud fan whist idle or using non gaming apps (desktop, tv, netflix, skype etc etc). Reading online it seems that the vast majority of owners are saying the fan is almost silent, even whilst gaming.

Just wondering if this is the case, and if so guess I should exchange it.

I've had to plug the sky box straight into the tv again, and keep the xbox switched off it's that bad.

Sometimes its dead silent, then the fan comes on like a jet engine for 5-10 mins :mad:

The other niggle I have is that when I say xbox on, my tv, xbox and amp comes on, then the xbox switches itself off. If I physically press the button it's all fine. Unfortunately none of the voice commands seem to work in my lounge if someone else is in the room (no idea why, even if they are being quiet). Once they leave, it's 90% ok. Tried re-running the setup for the mic and made no difference. Felt a right prat this evening when my entire family came over for boxing day. I said, look at this it's really great...xbox on...xbox on....xbox on....XBOX ON!! gave up, red faced lol and hit the button. Oh well.

Sounds like heatsinks could have lost good contact due to a knock in transit.

Sounds faulty, return it.

That said, until there's any actual integration with Sky STBs I can't see much reason to run another piece of equipment just to watch TV.

Get it replaced, fans should be pretty much silent

This. Mine is whisper quiet. People have knocked the psu being outside the unit but its made it near silent for me whilst my ps4 sounds like a hairdryer in comparison

guess i will have to phone them up. Unable to do it online as yet another microsoft site doesn't work properly lol

Registered the device, then it says under 'registered devices' you have no registered devices. Refreshed the page, nothing. Tried to register it again, and it says 'you have already registered this device' grrrrrr they should employ some better programmers.

i would assume with the xbox ones being so new, that a microsoft certified replacement unit will in fact be brand new?

Just to repeat what is said above, it is faulty.

Mine is silent, even stuffed in to an ikea expedit that effectively blocks air flow each end, never heard the fan once.

well don't I feel a right prat (prat of the week award goes to glen8)

nothing wrong with the xbox, the only place i could fit it was on top of the 5.1 blurry player. Need the 5.1 optical so i can get surround sound.

guess with the extra console sat on top, the bluray players fan had to spin a bit faster :roll eyes: making it sound like a jet engine.

really need to get myself a cheap plain 5.1 system (any ideas?)

oh well, at least my xbox is fine

Mine is almost silent in everything, in contrast to my ps4 which is pretty noisy.

If you read his latest post you'd find out that it was actually his bluray player and not the XONE that was making the noise.

Pretty amusing. Good thing you don't have to faff around with a replacement or anything now.
