So we bought my son a Xbox One for chrimbo after much discussion on here. Bottom line, it's a fab console, and he loves it. We've bought a few games for it now, but am I right in thinking every so often games will install by themselves? Demos? A couple of months ago the new Rainbox Six game appeared on the list, and I could play it without any issue. But I believe this was a demo. It never appeared on the xbold gold account thingy and I certainly didn't pay for it. Now the new wrestling game has appeared. Now my son is adament he did not buy it, and there is nothing listed on my paypal account or on the MS account. So is this a demo too? There is no way of telling.

The wrestling one was part of the free play weekend that they do every now and again. They will appear on your ready to install list from where you can download and play the full game but only for the weekend.

They dont install by themselves, Games with gold have to be "bought" for free while they are available.

Play time free weekends etc appear in ready to install but you have to actually install them yourself. Rainbow six has had a couple of these but you'd have to install it to play it, once the trail expires if you try and run it it tells you to buy it.

Only way it would install games with you doing nothing would be if it was set as someone elses home console. Is it second hand or is your lad trying to do game sharing? what other profiles are on the console?

That's what I thought. My son has my console set to his home console so when he buys something digitally on his Xbox it automatically adds itself and downloads on mine. Sounds like profile sharing to me.

Sounds like free weekends to me, unless they still work after the free weekend. Check which games have been on free weekends and see if they correlate.

Hmm cheers. He did install the games he has admitted, but they just appeared on the list. The thing is, you would expect there to be something on them telling you they are time or feature limited etc, but there is nothing. He still has the wrestling game today, so it's not for the weekend. Can you gift games at all?

As above! It's worthwhile downloading the games with gold each month however, as they're owned forever (as long as you have a gold membership)

The beauty is that you dont even need to install them, just set the download going and cancel the install, ive got loads of games backed up like that for a rainy day

agreed i have over 140 games showing under ready to install, some of them i will never play but you never know.
