Xbox One games work on Xbox series x/s?

Not a console gamer so not sure.

I just purchased Civ 6 for Xbox one for someone for Xmas to find out they have an Xbox series x/s.

A google seems to make me think that the game should work, but does anyone have any idea if it will or not?

Don't have it myself but never had an issue with older games and the website says works on both
