Xbox One headset query.

Hi folks, my wee fella has an Xbox One but he doesn't really use it, so it so I've started using it more. I don't know much about them and wanted to get a headset to chat to a mate that has one as well.

Can this headset plug directly into the controller?
Cheapo headset

My mate was saying there's like a box thing plugs into his controller and his headset is wired to it. Just wondering if I need to buy something else as well as the headset. Any advice appreciated.
 
Depends on your controller. My Xbox one s controller comes with an aux socket as well so you can plug in any standard headset. However if your controller is an older model and does not come with the aux socket then you'll need to get an adaptor to go with that particular headset.

Ahh thanks, didn't realise there were different controllers. Mine must be the newer one with the socket and my mates must be the older one and he uses an adapter. Thank you.

I'm not sure he ever had a headset, I've never seen him wearing one and I had looked in the box earlier this evening and there was nothing left in it. Had just checked in case it had came with one. He's had it about a year and only really played Minecraft and Skylanders on it but can ask him in the morning if he has hid it some where.
