**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Some free dlc things as well. It's mostly the free game though. That's £50 value there going by current prices so if it's of interest to you then it's worth it.

I know, the more I think about what 'next gen' means to me, it's not so much graphics (as they are pretty damn good to be fair) it's about things like AI/physics and features like this that give a better 'experience' and one that is next generation.
Completely agree. It's good to see companies trying something new as well. Not everything will pan out (I can already see a load of people moaning about Kinect), but I imagine there will be features on both consoles that turn out to be so amazing, we'll wonder how we ever managed without them.

Kinect will either do two things, suck for most people that cant care to use it.

Or will completely blow people away at how good/ accurate, and more importantly, what Devs get out of it.

It's surly got to be a huge advantage to them knowing that EVERY X1 owner has it sitting to use.

Oh yeah, it's a great advantage for developers knowing every Xbox One owner has a Kinect, but they still need to come up with some innovative ways of using it to make it appeal to more than the family market. Games like Kinect Sports are fun, but they're not going to convince the hardcore gamers that Kinect is actually useful.

One thing I liked the idea of was the suggestion that Kinect could be used in Battlefield 4 to lean around corners, rather than assigning the lean to a button. Something like that, as small as it is, would be useful. Also, someone designing a game where the gameplay can adjust based on your reactions (as Kinect is meant to be able to read your heart rate, know when you're smiling, etc) would also be good as long as it wasn't gimmicky.

At least knowing everyone will have a Kinect gives devs the incentive to try and create something innovative rather than some stupid gesture based commands that no-one would actually want to use.

One of the things I think has always put people off of the kinect is one simple thing....the motion controls require you to stand up (for the most part). If devs can think of ways to incorporate motion controls whilst sitting down and something that can also be done with a controller in hand then I think thats when people will start to accept it.

Voice controls are good and all (I use them all the time when watching netflix etc) but its meant to be the motion controls that set kinect apart from a ps camera

I always pictured being able to "throw" a grenade, or some kind of small "reload" gestures whilst sitting down with the controller would be kinda cool, not something where you have to be up out of your seat etc.

Or even to make a pointing hand gesture to mark enemies in the distance.

Dead Rising 3 is meant to be including a point gesture, where you can point to a place and tell your survivors to go to it and defend it. Could be easier doing that than trying to do it with your controller.

Also, now that Kinect recognises the controller, you could in theory use it like how Heavy Rain uses the DS3 - moving it up and down or side to side to do things.

Isn't it the six-axis inside the ds3 that allows you to do that though. The kinect just uses IR to detect the controller so I don't think that would be possible

The problem I've always had with Kinect is the lack of accuracy and responsiveness when compared to a controller. Until that is improved i think most 'hardcore' gamers will stick to using a controller i think.

That's very next gen, I like that feature a lot. Should be really helpful for people who find themselves stuck on games, to simply call up an app that has a video guide for you to watch. Very cool indeed.

Seriously? Who doesn't have a phone or tablet to hand? I'd much rather have the 10% performance loss back.

Kinect 1 works perfectly fine with motion controls when sat down, how else do you think people navigate the dash?

I remember using it to get around Sky Go a few times from my sofa and it worked well.

Exactly this. I've just been playing Dead space 3 with the ipad with a collectable guide (in fact why do they bother with collectables in games these days, it's what everyone does). Even with in game snap I'd still rather do that.

In the days before ipad I used to make a small picture in pic on my dell 2405 with a pc feed to youtube. Again I'd rather do that and not impact on game performance/power. :)

I will personally never buy a console at launch after being burned when buying an N64 and Nintendo dropping the price soon after!

I was also burned by the N64 price drop but I'm not overly concerned about it this time round as I can't see there being any likelihood of similar price drops. Even if sales are terrible and Microsoft drop the price, by say £100 next year, to compete with the PS3 I've gotten a free game with the day one pack so it's only a saving of £50 in real terms. For that I'd rather have the xbox at launch TBH than wait a year for it.

Also, the PS4 is remarkably cheap for a launch console so I doubt there's any chance of Sony discounting it anytime soon. Especially seeing as they're still charging £200 for the PS3 at the moment and that was over £425 at launch 7 years ago! Very nearly the same as the Xbone is selling for now actually!

Fair enough, sounds like your a day one purchaser from your post? I agree that I don't think MS will drop the price of the Xbone that quickly after launch, but I cannot also personally justify spending that much money for a console and I personally think its over-priced.

Yes, but at mentioned, Kinect can "see" the controller (it recognises if it's passed to another person for example), so I don't see why it couldn't detect other motion. Considering Kinect is meant to be able to tell my heart rate from how my skin looks, I'm sure it could (in theory) detect movement of the controller.

Some people may prefer to have it on the screen side-by-side to whatever they're playing, rather than constantly having to look away at a phone/tablet/laptop. It would make it easier to follow IMO, simply flicking your eyes to the side of the screen rather than looking away completely.

Like a lot of the features though, if you don't like it you don't have to use it.

bf4 kinect lean sounds great if done correct, like a quick tip of the head left/right/or up for respective cover moves would be awesome.
