**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Considerably more expensive is a relative term I think, especially when you factor in the free Fifa 14 download, and the Kinect as well. To get a comparable PS4, including Fifa 14 and the Playstation Eye, it would actually cost you more. :)

Its funny, this was the exact argument Sony fanboys used at the begining of this gen - if you bought a wireless adapter and hd dvd drive to make the xbox 360 a similar spec to the ps3 it would have been more expensive.

This was laughed off by the MS fanboys and most neutrals as being pretty irrelevant...

Now the MS fanboys are starting to use this exact same comparison.

So PS3 bundled the bluray player equals blu ray a success. Microsoft didnt bundle HD DVD equals HD DVD fail.

Therefore Kinect bundled equals win! Ps eye not bundled equals fail. :-)

Stop saying "from the cloud"!!!!

These are the same servers that have existed for gaming for many years. I hate companies that repackage existing tech into new fancy words and sell it to people.

Technically any server not in the same place as your machine is in the cloud.

Titanfall will have dedicated servers.
COD will have dedicated servers.

You never hear PC people saying "this game is being hosted in the cloud"

Certain developers will provide dedicated servers for their games, some won't. To me that seems the same as last gen? I am sure some PS3 games had dedicated servers as did 360 games.

There is so much more to cloud computing than just external hosting. Its a massive understatement to say that the term "the cloud" applies to any servers hosted externally.

Look at the differences between SaaS, PaaS, PaaS, Private Cloud, Public cloud etc...

I know this, none of this is relevant to XBOX1 gaming is it (nor to the people buying their console)?

My comment wasn't an in depth analysis of cloud computing, but merely a comment that all MS are advertising is dedicated servers as they have last gen, nothing more nothing less at this point.

This is not the power of the cloud, imo.

Nope, merely stating the facts of the matter. Am I wrong? :)

If I were an MS fanboy I wouldn't own every bit of hardware Sony has released would I? :)

I'm a Nintendo fanboy and I own all the consoles and a gaming PC. Speaking of which, can you please give broken hope a slap on the arse for being a constant tool in the wiiu thread?

I don't think MS are stupid enough to advertise dedicated servers as the cloud. There is actually some cloud specific features.

This is my stand point

there is much more to the 300,000 live servers than just 300,000 servers to process the same stuff that the previous 20,000 servers did.

I know it's more expensive, but my point that I made earlier in the thread is that if you're interested in Fifa, and if you're interested in motion gaming, it's actually very good value now. Assuming the PS Eye is £50, to buy the same setup on the Sony side would actually cost you £450, which is £20 more than the same setup on the Xbox side. Again, it all depends on what you're interested in, which is why I said the cost is relative :)

That's quite a small market then :D.

I think comparing like for like (as you have) is reliant on a big IF as I see it.

I also don't think the mass market really compares in that way. Sure we might as enthusiasts but the overall cost of the product still overrides to a large degree. I see motion gaming the same as 3D. Niche but nice to have. Not worth paying more for (IMO).

I'm 90% going to cancel my X1 pre-order and get the PS4 (I was only ever going to get one) as the more I think of it, the idea of paying more for inferior hardware (that kind of stuff interests me) and for stuff which I'm not going to use (Kinect), the more I think it's a bad idea.

Although in real terms the difference between the hardware is pretty small you're looking at a like for like game running at either less frame rate or with less details to account for the difference in hardware. Perhaps not from day one but it will make a difference later down the line. It's fairly straight forward in that if you've got two very similar architectures with different GPUs then there will be differences.

As a very rough example, you could compare a PC game with a 7950 and 7850 at 1080p60/30 locked and see the time spent at 60 and 30 FPS locked. The 7950 would be quicker of course. To make up for it you could drop the settings a touch on the 7850 machine to get the same time at 60 and 30 FPS locked. The difference in image quality may be a minor difference compared with a lower % of frame drops and that might be the path they take to account for the lower GPU power.

Alternatively, they could be lazy and aim for a standard which is a lowest common denominator :D. Time will tell. I think the multi-plat comparisons will be fascinating with regards to IQ and frame rate / resolution.

I'm not denying there is more to cloud computing. I am just saying what they announced for COD is just dedicated servers and no different to what has been offered in the past. Call it what it is. When they show something unique in COD that is the power of the cloud, link me up and correct me. For now I think my point stands (in relation to COD)

Seems like you both know the amount of servers and what they will be used for, so enlighten me! I am only going on what they announced today for COD.

I'm not talking about the COD dedicated servers. At E3 MS announced other features cloud would offer.

I didn't know COD games on console previously had dedicated servers. Which ones were these? Genuine question

Sure, but there was a lot of policy changes since then and I think a lot of the cloud power they talked about at E3 was to do with online game libraries and digital sharing and other stuff I have forgotten!

I haven't heard any specific new cloud features mentioned since then apart from Dedicated servers and online saves. Have you?

People keep saying cloud, but not really expanding on what it means for XB1 gamers.

They haven't on console iirc. I meant that advertising a game having dedicated servers as a cloud feature is a bit misleading as dedicated servers for games is not new (maybe new for COD on consoles!) Other 360 and PS3 games have had dedicated servers before (I can't name any now but I am sure there have been a handful at least).

Cancelled the pre-order with Amazon for the Xbone, ordered it from the Microsoft Store instead. The Day One + Fifa bundle for release.

Hopefully it goes fine (along with the rest who i've followed), as I've ordered by debit card :p

ed: Exactly £3 has came from my account, so i'm guessing it has gone though. :D

There is much more to the Xbox One cloud than just the ability to host your multiplayer servers. It offers proper distributed computing.

Great technical article here which explains in much more detail than I could
