I've not owned a console since a PS2 and a brief foray into Wii land release week.

If you just get a XBox One and no games what do you get functionality wise? Blue ray player, browser, Netflix... Anything else?

Can you just pay and download any of the games you want? Or are they all physical media still?

Do you have to pay Microsoft to play online?

Will my official Xbox360 controller I use on my PC work with it?

Thanks all!

You can buy digital games but they are always about £10-20 dearer than they should be.

They do everything you would expect from a media player. Few things are locked at the moment i believe, but only a patch or 2 away.

Yes, can get 12 months membership for £30. Worth it as the online experience is loads better than PSN.

No, you need Xbox one controllers.

If you are just after a powerful media player that you can have a game on from now and then. Just buy a PS3 for about £80. Very powerful media players and do a great job.

To answer your questions in order:

- That is pretty much it as it currently stands. On Demand services should be coming and there is a Youtube/Machinima app (which I have found buggy thus use the IE browser instead). DLNA media abilities are lacking at the moment but there are work arounds.

- You can pay and download digital copies of games if you want to. They are often more expensive than physical copies (which can be re-sold) so there is little point beyond convenience.

- A Gold account is required to play online. PS+ is now also required to play online on the PS4 as well. Both are around £40 a year.

- No Xbox360 peripherals can be used on the Xbone (to my knowledge). This includes cabled controllers despite the fact that they would be physically compatible (enough buttons etc).
