When i start the box up i get flickering horizontal coloured lines across the screen. I have only had the xbox for 2weeks, when it first started basically the whole bottom half of the screen was affect by the horizontal lines. Although the video is rather poor you can still see the lines. Is this a HDMI problem or xbox problem. The HDMI cables runs through a splitter at the moment.

Thanks for the replies, i haven't tried anything yet. I was just after a bit of feedback in case anyone had experienced this kind of problem. It doesn't happen on every start up, i changed the resolution to 1080 and that seems to have helped, i.e the horizontal lines in the video are no where as bad as when it first started. Yesterday tho upon start up i had a black screen with only the little xbox symbol in the top right of the screen, a restart fixed that.

Ok, ditched the splitter, changed HDMI lead and connected the Xbox1 directly to the Tv and the problem still exists. Only happens on start up and not everytime. It doesn't affect the performance either once the lines have dissappeard.

Any further suggestions ?

Yes try it and if it does it with the other tv then its most likely the xbox:(

Ok, if it is the xbox can i just take it back to the shop as it is only about 2 weeks old or will it have to be shipped off to microsoft for repair. I would prefer the shop option

Here are the suggestion Microsoft gave during a live chat session

1. POWER CYCLE - While the console is on, press and hold the console’s Xbox button for 5 seconds >> The console will power down. Unplug the power cable\power supply >> Wait 30 seconds, plug it back in and then turn your console back on by again pressing the Xbox button.

2. CLEAR PERSISTENT STORAGE - Please go to Home >> Settings >> Disc and Blue - Ray >> Click Persistent Storage >> Click Clear Persistent Storage. Please do it 5 times.

3. MAC SETTINGS - Please press the Menu button on your controller >> Click Settings >> Click Network >> Click Advance Settings >> Click Alternate MAC address >> and then click Clear.

What do you think ? Haven't had time to try yet

it sounds like the HDMI is having trouble handshaking. All content is sent garbled on HDMI until it handshakes and verifies its a secure connection. Before the handshake it just looks like snow (like you got when your old analogue TV wasn't tuned in) before it handshakes and starts working properly.

This is either a dodgy cable, a dodgy TV HDMI port or a dodgy Xbox.

Once you've ruled out the cable and TV take it back to the shop you bought it from and get a replacement.

Very much doubt points 2 and 3 will help with display problems.

from watching the video it looks exactly the same issue I had with my PS3, tried everything but eventually came to the conclusion that the problem lay with the consoles HDMI socket. took it back for replacement. (think they said their was a fault with HDCP iirc)

So far today there have been no problems, however that is no indication as its not a regular occurring fault. I have done what microsoft has suggested - has that cured it, well time will tell.

hope that works out for you, I know the issue I had was intermittent and at times hard to replicate.

Just been and exchanged my Xbox1 for a new one. So that means the only thing that hasn't been changed will be my Tv. I should know in a day or two if it was my Tv or Xbox at fault
