I want to be able to switch between the tv and the pc monitor that I have in my living room without having to change over the hdmi cable.

I bought a hdmi splitter thinking that would be the solution but it seems to only work one way round, it can only split two inputs going into one input on a tv it doesn't work the other way around to split the output of the Xbox into two which is a bit baffling.

Anyone know a way of doing this?

Not sure if it works, but if you have windows 10 on the PC and the Xbox app installed you can wireless stream the game to the PC and it may possibly still display on the TV !

You need a HDMI Matrix. Basically a splitter/switch that can have multiple inputs and outputs depending on how many you need and how much £ you want to spend. Google around, they're not cheap for a decent one and I'd recommend Lindy as I have one. Active splitters/matrix are pricier than ordinary splitters as they must maintain/emulate the copyright protection/HDCP signal to allow for different output displays, or something like that. Also look out for ones that have a separate audio out, can be handy if you ever connect a HDMI device to a video only (DVI) display, the matrix splits the audio from the signal and offers a headphone socket or phono jacks to output the audio.

If the issue is access to the back of the screens/console you could use an M-F HDMI extension cable from the console and manually swap HDMI cables from the screens into that. It isn't the automated solution that you're probably after but it's what I used to do and is extremely cheap.
