So guys,

i'm probably a little out of touch with the consoles, but from what i remember at launch, half the features of the xbox one weren't available in the UK.
Has that changed at all?

Currently, our game room has;
Gaming rig (see sig)
PS3 (mainly for blu-ray)
Xbox 360
47" HDTV
Onkyo AV amp and 5.1 speaker setup.
Everything connects into AV amp.

Can the xbox one consolidate and offer anything different?
We don't have Sky in this room, only an RF out from another sky box and/or freeview feed coming in.
Or if we bought a XBO would it simply replace the 360 and that's that? I guess as it has a BD drive we could do away with the PS3.
Can it act as an AV though?

Sounds like a noob post, but advice appreciated all the same.

Cheers :)

More features have become available, the One guide for example.

As for what it could replace ... erm, the 360 and PS3.

I don't suppose there's a sheet to compare what awesome features they have gimped from us over the US version is there? May be looking to get one for forza and a few others.

I honestly cannot think of what features the US get that we don't.

The initial launch phase yes, they gimped the TV setup but now with the Digital Tuner and Xbox One Guide all working (With my Sky anyway), voice command etc.

As for what it can replace.

Xbox 360 unless you're still gaming on there, and there's no alternatives on One.
The PS3 as the Blueray player is on One, but if you've got Kinect, the command (Play/Pause) is a godsent!

The Xbox One can turn TV and Digital boxes on and off as you turn the Xbox One on, it may work with your AV system too, I don't have an AV setup so can't comment.

How I would setup is Digital Box / Tuner / RF Out (assuming HDMI?) -> Xbox -> AV -> TV. So when you shout Xbox On, it should turn everything on, but not sure if the TV will.

If the TV needs direct link, then I would go with RF Out -> AV -> Xbox -> TV. So command on will turn on the AV box, which is getting the RF Signal from your Skybox from else where, and the TV will turn on too.

Hope this helps.

I think other than a few apps that are specific to the US like the NFL stuff, most of the features are in-line between territories now.

Completely different system, it's actually more like a PC game than the previous setup on the 360. Thus making it incompatible, even with tweaks. Also, it's great for old games (forcing publishered/Studios) to be 'remastered' for it.

GTA 5 - a lot more improved than trying a 360 on Xbox One.
Master Chief Collection - enough said.

And now Mass Effect is apparently being remastered for XBO! Woo!

Not sure about 2011, but on Windows 8, my tablet is setup using 'PlayTo' settings. The Xbox also reads my shared folder no problem.

Only thing I would strongly advise is change the Xbox One name in settings to anything but the default. Doing that have alleviate all "playto" (Casting) and sharing issues I use to get.

I've been using Plex installed on my Synology NAS (DS1812+) and it's nowhere near powerful enough to transcode big MKV files unfortunately. The plex server is now installed on my spare Mac Mini which does the job nicely.

The built in Xbox media player is basic and still doesn't handle many codecs correctly (no DTS support) and I've not managed to get it to play any of my movie MKVs sadly. Plex is definitely the way forward if you want to be able to seamlessly play all of your video collection.

I'm using my XBO with a chromecast jammed in the back, great for all my shows I watch! Anything I stream via on demand services etc. and it just comes through on the xbox 'TV' mode!

I use Videostream for files and the chrome extension to cast individual tabs :)

Psymonkee are you playing Forza Horizon 2? Didn't we used to play Burnout together a few years ago? If so, I seem to have mislaid your gamertag, so if you want to add me for anything, please do :) It's ExactBananas

I think I played Burnout with everybody on this forum at some point, proper addiction that game was :D

I have FH2 but still in it's shrink wrap, shall add you though, always good to get more people to race against :)
