My son is currently connecting his Xbox one x via hdmi 2.1 to an AOC24GU monitor, overall very happy but he’s not happy that his friend on the same game is seeing a higher FPS is his game counter, I’ve tried explaining but I’m struggling, any help gratefully received and any set up tips to get the best from both pieces of hardware, thanks

Over heating?
Forgive me, but the console is a console and not customisable. You could run the game from an SSD, and close running apps too. I'm just making presumptions here though.

I don't know how you get an FPS display on Xbox One X to begin with.
But it could be that your son is running whatever game it is in performance mode and the friend is in quality mode?

There's quite a bit of information missing here - is the friend playing on PC, PS4 (Pro) or also on Xbox One X? There are no quality/performance modes on the game, it just runs at 1728p60 in some modes and 1728p30 in others.

Some monitors have built in fps counters, I know my AOC can do it through the OSD. Is it also possible your sons mate is just making it up, you know like kids do.

Both kids Xbox one x, our monitor is AOC and showing 120Hz when on the OSD

You're saying your son's friend is claiming to be showing more than 120 fps on his monitor on an xbox game? I don't mean to be rude but this just sounds like typical kids talking rubbish.

Is it a 1440p monitor?

Edit: I see where the confusion may lie, apparently the One X can indeed support 120hz monitors. Siege can be played above 60fps but ONLY in single player mode. The monitor could show 120hz on the dashboard, this doesn't mean the game is running anywhere near that, think car speedometer.

 great performance, lucky having an uncle at Nvidia.....

Ah I don't miss obsessing over FPS, I have been very tempted to build a new PC lately but I hope the new consoles end that thought process.

It’s a 1080p monitor, our monitor shows 120 on the dashboard, I get that, it’s the max, the actual game shows you the current fps, ours is max 60 and his friends is 120 in the game, it’s no big deal, just kids wanting to be as good as their mates I guess but I’ll get him to try single player

Check VSYNC is turned off, I believe this is on the console version and will allow uncapped framerate.
