xbox one x will it support 1440p ? as need new monitor for both

hi guys

my lad is looking into getting a new monitor , he currentley has a dell 24 inch 1080p ultra edge which has been great .

he noow has a 980ti with a 6600 skylake and enjoys pc gaming but he also loves to play xbox and will be upgrading his xbox to a one x but both use the same monitor

the problem is he only needs maybe 27 inch monitor and is keen to go with a gsync one but we are wondering if the xbox one x will support 1440p or will it just do 1080p or downscale from 4k or would there be a standalone option for 1440p (2560x1440)

whats the best thing to do and can anyone recommend a monitor within a reasonable price please .

This is one of the problems I am having...

I don't really have a solution for you but I believe the Xbox One X is Freesync capable. So similar to me the GPU will be G-Sync yet the Xbox will be Freesync!

oh i didnt realise that at all that the one x will be freesync

so basically he will have to get rid of his 980ti and buy a amd card (will this be fine with his skylake cpu) and then get a 1440p freesync monitor

That is the route I am looking at as it's going to be expensive trying to support two separate technologies. I think I am going to wait for a Freesync HDR monitor which I think will become more common next year.

Hopefully someone else will be able to provide some more info but hope that helps.

yeah at worse he can still play his x1 at 1080p on his dell

and still game ok with his current set up

If your looking for a 1440P or FreeSync monitor for the Xbox One X, Do make sure you check the monitor manual!

As I having just check my Asus 1440P 144hz freesync monitor manual it only supports 1440P resolution and/or Freesync on the DisplayPort not the HDMI ports!!!

Also it is not very cheap or straight forward to go from HDMI device to a DisplayPort Display, whereby the other way (into an HDMI display) just need a cheap adapter or cable.
