Hey guys

Im only 18 at the moment, So I dont have millions, but I have a way of income, which is good.

Im a PC gamer and, I swore to myself that I will stay one. I want to play games like CoD MW2 etc at 60+ FPS Most if not all the time, but that requires a good computer, which can cost a lot, especially for person my age.

So here comes my question, is Xbox worth it? Is it that much worse than a PC ?
Should I buy it instead of saving up a grand ?

A controller will feel very different, especially when playing an FPS like COD. I have gotten use to it and it doesn't really take that long to if you persist.

As for visuals and what not, the 360 will not look as good as a £1k PC, which is obvious anyway. But MW2 runs at 60fps pretty much all the time on the 360, so that helps.

I have both a PC and an Xbox 360 and although the PC does have better graphics the 360 even now will make you dribble on certain games like Gears of War.
In my opinion a 360 is a solid gaming platform as you have a massive choice of various genres, great gaming community, demos, videos, addons etc.. are all there for your games on xbox live and the support on the phone is great if you run in to any troubles, unlike PC's were you have to scroll forums for hours on end to get a solution to a problem.

Plus its pretty nice to be able to sit back on your couch or bed relaxing while playing your game of choice on a big butt HDTV all at a very nice frame rate.

So in other words yes, get a 360, but not the 4GB model, get the model with the 250GB HDD.

Ive just moved from pc gaming (10 years) to xbox gaming and it is taking a while to get used to the pad but im geting there slowly but surely

playing games in single player helped me before going on xbox live,i completed cod waw and cod 4 and then played the mw2 demo over and over before taking on real players on live

for me being able to sit down and chill in my own gaming room on a 50" HDTV was finally more appealing than slumping over a desk on my pc

What? That doesn't need a good computer at all, well it needs a decent computer sure but you can run MW2 at 60FPS constant with 3 year old graphics cards like the 8800GTX. :/ and that's at 1920x1080, not sub-HD like the consoles.

A computer that will rip through Call of Duty and allow you to do far more than just the odd game/media job will only set you back around £300-400 (possibly less, haven't checked recently - custom builds)

I haven't updated my graphics card in 2 years and I'm still maxing out the majority of games (ARMA and Metro being the exceptions), if I can't max out a game (like Metro 2033) it still looks much better than the 360 version.

Edit: In short, it's not worth choosing one or the other, you should have both, a decent PC is not only useful for playing games after all.

I built a PC back in 2007 I believe with an 8800GT for something like £250-300 and the 360 wouldn't look as good as that either. I mean I could play Gears of War at 60FPS on one of those cards with no dips at all, at 1920x1200!

People are stuck in the past if they think PC gaming is still expensive, you only need a mid-range card to max out the majority of PC games these days. It's great.

I keep hearing that the best bang for buck atm is a good gaming PC and a PS3... I'd suggest the best bang for buck is just a 360. You get most the PC/360 and 360/PS3 multiplatform titles, XBLA titles and 360 exclusives.

I sold my gaming rig and Eve online character 5 years ago and bought a 360 and haven't looked back. You do get used to a controller and I honestly prefer it for fps these days. I did buy a PS3 at the beginning of the year but other than the AA exclusives it doesn't get a look in for anything other than blu-rays.

Thanks for your opinions guys!

Looks to me theres mixed feelings about this.
But I think from what Andi said (Cheers mate) and Margaret, Ill stay with the PC.

Think this can be closed now :)

Thanks again for help you guys

I love how people defend what they consider the better option! ha. I switched to xbox 360 after not wanting to spend much money on gaming, best thing i could have done + pre-owns super cheap on the bay.

Same here and I used to be a die hard pc gamer (kill the console kiddies and all that) but when I got a 360 it just seemed right. The games are good, the graphics are pretty decent on a nice tv and it's much more comfortable than sitting at a desk with keyboard + mouse - not as precise but definitely more comfortable.

I can't recommend the 360 enough, I have been totally converted and now my pc is a great media centre.

However, that's just my opinion and you should pick what you want to pick. I have some great games on Steam that I haven't touched since getting this console which is a shame but just shows you that the 360 is a great console.

The only reason that you can play most pc games on an average graphics card now is because they're pretty much all console ports, this is what I got sick of and went to the source rather than keep playing shoddy ports on the PC.

I must admit, there's plenty of times that I'm playing on the PS3 and think all of those things and feel just slightly silly in having an expensive PC.

Definately get a 360 - i used to also only play games on my pc - got an xbox couple weeks ago, and its so much better being able to lie down on my bed and play, not to mention when friends come round just connect up their controller that they bring round, and games are way better.

I think in the OP's individual case, the PC option makes a lot of sense.

He is in a position where he has a new PC case and PSU. He also has 2GB of DDR2 RAM, HDD and DVD drive he can reuse. This means he can buy an Athlon II triple core, AM2+/AM3 motherboard and 4870 graphics card for the same price as a new XBox 360 elite. This system will happily play most modern PC games at his resolution (1680x1050).

Usually when someone is considering Xbox vs PC they will have to pay at least twice as much for the PC option. However, for the OP he is lucky enough to not have to worry about extra cost and compare the two options just on game catalogue, graphics and usability.

As for using a 360 on a big TV, on the couch/bed with a controller - this can also be said for the PC. Any modern PC can be easily hooked up to a HDTV via HDMI/DVI and microsoft make a PC adapter for the wireless 360 controller (got one myself) which allows up to four controllers and headsets to be used at once.
