I am leaning towards an Xbox for my 11 year old. Her one best friend doent have either.

She likes Tom Raider.

Not sure which to get for her ( In May, with a 42 or 46 inch TV )

Any pointers?

But seriously i cant really choose as i like games that are only made for certain consoles...

Last of us - PlayStation
Forza - Xbox

I've always been a pc gamer but sold up last year and got a Xbox one for Forza,a few months later I got a PS4 and haven't turned the Xbox on since,I like the games and the controller on the PS4 more.
I'll keep the Xbox for now but can't see me keeping it forever where as I'll be keeping the PS4.
My 10 year old daughter likes the PS4 as well.

Xbox, I think Tomb Raider games are released on Xbox first if that matters.

Then you have the subscription based game pass which will have all the new exclusive MS games, something to consider if any of the current and future games interest her.

Is there any burning reason why the console has to be current gen? Personally I'd recommend a PS3 which has a wealth of games (including the first 3 Uncharted's) and many age appropriate platformers. Plus cheaper catalogue too. If none of her friends have consoles there's no pressing reason to adopt any one console in particular either.

With the prices of consoles now, its most likely not worth buying older tech. Why give anyone a reduced experience, kids love new tech, shiny things, so any new console would be good for this

My little girl 8 plays my PS4 as she likes Tearaway, rayman etc, and I can also let her use a PS vita for remote play and PS vita games, cause I do limit the time she uses a console, but the playstation offers her a wide range of games she can play. Crash Bandicot is also another good one, q - bert as that was on PS Plus, unfinished swan and the pinball games.

I think a Playstation is a good shout for her.

PS4 blew Xbox out of the water this gen in terms of exclusives and still has a lot of games suitable for kids. I considered getting an Xbox myself some time ago but with a decent PC and a PS4 there's just no point.

Got PS4 pro and a One X.

PS4 has been in its box a long time... if you play online for me the PS4 just isn't good enough. However if you play single player a lot, this is your console, the only time i will be pulling mine out the box anytime soon will be for Last Of Us 2.

For a child, the xbox is so child friendly and has a much better parent control. PS4's is virtually non existent. my 7 year old has a one S it notifys me when ever i buy something ( he knows not to anyway) via email for me to confirm it. If i dont, it doesnt go through.

Suppose it all depends what you child wants! They wont be fussed about anything other than the games they want to play, mines obsessed with roblox and minecraft, neither is a console decider, I prefer the safety of the Xbox parental side though.

PS4 has a far wider variety of games and an increasingly strong exclusive line up . That said, Xbox is doing a lot of the baxksabac compatible stuff which is cool .

I haven't touched my PS4 for months because I have a 1x and have 4k.

That said - if I'm honest I think the PS4 pro would be my go to console if I had one (hoping to get one eventually). The 1x was a gift so wasn't my purchase choice.

My reasoning is:
Better user interface (imo)
Respectable 4k performance.
Better exclusives
Better store - games going cheap all the time as there's always a sale on.
Better free games on PS+ compared to xbox live gold (imo)
Cheaper than a 1x.
Respectable out of the box VR of you want it.

Most of the above still applies to the standard version of the PS4 console which also has the edge in performance over a standard xbox.

Been really pleased with my ps4 - lots of fun for the money.
