Just realised my old gamertag has like 3.5k of points sitting on it, think thats about £30 worth.

The PC marketplace has been closed down so no I've got no way of using the points :/

Can I purchase things and gift them to others or is it possible to transfer my points to another asccount.
 
You can use them for other MS services e.g. Windows 8/Phone App Stores, Xbox Music, Xbox Video etc. Just bear in mind that since they changed from the points system to using local currency, they set an expiry date on any funds they convert. Quite how they can be allowed to expire your own money, I don't know, but that's MS for you.
 
I guess you could sell the account, but think that's against terms and conditions .etc blah blah :o

You could put your account on a friends xbox and buy whatever he wanted and then he'd be able to use the content even without your account present. It worked last I tried but that's a few years back!

Have phoned them and spoke to a nice Indian dude named Andi, who said he couldn't help... Put me onto his supervisor... Andy! LOL

He's taken some details and said he will escalate to the billing team.
Like £30 quids worth of points I think :(

Aah is stuff tied to the console not the account?

It's tied to both in a sense, only your account can re-download it but as long as it's kept on that console he should be able to use the content, even while offline.

If he got a new system I think you'd have to sign into it download the content again and transfer the content license or something like that.

Got lots of my brothers arcade games from my brother from 2 systems ago cause of this :)

Yup, that's pretty much how it works. When you buy any digital content, you buy two licenses effectively - one associated with your profile, and one associated with the console you use to buy the content. Anyone using the console can play the games/content you buy, as long as you don't transfer the licenses elsewhere.

I've done the same trick myself in the past, using my Hungarian account to buy a couple of cheap digital titles earlier this year, and then playing them using my normal XBL account.
 
Sorry to hijack but I have some sealed points cards for my Xbox 360, am I under obligation to open them and get them converted ? or can I wait as long as I like?
