xbox remote and XP

Will an xbox 360 universal media remote + IR wireless gaming receiver allow me to control winXP (SP3). I only want fairly simple functionality: pause, play, volume, skip tracks, etc.
if this will work, i'm also going to get a wireless xbox controller for games.

The 360 wireless gaming receiver for Windows is not IR, so the remote won't work with it. You may be able to use the remote with the Microsoft Media Centre remote receiver, but I think you can only get that with the Microsoft Media Centre remote, so you would have two remote controls.

:lol: bloody typical! you would think the IR receiver would work with the remote.

Maybe the Microsoft Media Centre Remote Controller will work. But i don't want to have to use XP Media Centre Edition. Just bog standard XP.

what i really want is something likethis soundgraph iMon remote. But i can't seem to find one for sale anywhere and its a bit pricey for what i need.
