Xbox Series X HDMI 2.0

Hello, I’ve bought an Xbox Series X and I only have an HDMI 2.0 on my 4K TV. Will games like Fortnite and Flight Simulator run okay on it? The Xbox Series S I have works fine plugged in to an HDMI 2.0. Cheers.

Very few games run even close to 120hz on consoles but you automatically lose 40fps quality modes since they require a 120hz container to work, if you care about that.

I've found 40fps VRR Is the best mode to play certain titles but I think I'll soon start hooking my PC up to my TV for multiplatforms anyways since a measly 4070 absolutely demolishes my PS5 when it comes to framerate and IQ, including Sony ports.

I recently did a quite check on this and surprisingly it's somewhere around 100 games on Series X (Windows Central List). Which is quite high. A lot esports/multiplayer games but then a lot of indies and some other AAA games (Borderlands 3). I assume it's a similar number on PS5 given the similarity in the hardware.

Yeah, I'm talking about AAAs and most of the major titles, esports/indie games are usually way less graphically intensive.

The vast majority of heavy-hitters won't run at 120fps or even close to that.

This is only an assumption on my part but I'd say most people buy a PS5 to play exclusives and major multiplatforms, in which case 120fps is a pipe dream.

Perhaps, although I would say with games like Destiny 2,COD:MW2/Warzone, Apex, Fortnite, Sea of Thieves, Halo etc. these are likely some of the most played games on the platform. They are major titles where I think people might 'expect' high refresh rate support. And clearly people are enjoying that high refresh rate gaming on consoles right now.

Obviously 30/60fps modes are the 'norm' and utilising HDMI 2.0 will be fine for most. But still a surprising list I think.

Fair enough, all I'm saying is that most people don't buy a PS5 to play Apex ot Fortnite at 120fps with heavy DRS, competitive esports twitch shooter gamers are mostly on PC. That's all.

I guess it's a matter of opinion but I don't consider stuff like Fortnite, Apex etc. as major system-selling titles for either the PS5 or XSX.

If you were to make a poll, I think you'd get more "I got a PS5 to play FF7: Rebirth" than "I got a PS5 to play Fortnite at 120fps" so maybe I should clarify:

Very few actual system-sellers and games most people are interested in run at 120fps on the PS5/XSX and they won't. Ever.

We're veering into a different conversation now because I do agree with you on some points, but at the moment 9 of the top 10 most played games on Xbox are Live Services (Fortnite, COD:MW2 & Minecraft top 3). I'd disagree in that I think many more gamers are buying PS5s/Xboxes to play COD:MW2, FC24 etc.

As a complete aside I forgot that issue with PS5 where (if I remember correctly) it doesn't do 120hz on PS4 back-compat games, which I think a lot of Live Services are still tied to. So the list is a lot smaller for PS5.

Still waiting for 120hz option for Apex Legends on consoles. It was promised but never happened.
There are quite a few TV,s that support 120hz through hdmi 2.0 (upto 1440p) if your panel supports it
