So Microsoft could extract extra money from you in the form of the official HDMI dongle. Stick it to the man and remove the outer plastic casing as mentioned above so you can use both at the same time. Its a tight fit but works a charm.
It's the same on the VGA cable so unless they had this idea of making you buy this particular extra accessory even before releasing the HDMI enabled models... (not a stretch I'll admit).
They're just chunky to make them easier to manipulate when plugging them in. It also means you can't ram the 360 against a wall and block its fans if the cables have chunky connectors.
The HDMI was then placed right by the AV cable for the reasons Pete suggested.
just to let you know that it is possible , i got a hacksaw and yep you guessed it i cut the lip off and now i can run sound through my amp and video through hdmi . simple lol
doesnt the new xbox slim have a dedicated optical input so you can use a normal toslink cable and normal HDMI cable and by-pass their av cable altogether ?
