XBox - SSD - Quiet fan?

Is it possible to and more specifically, has anyone here ever fitted a SSD and/or a quieter fan to an XBox?

They are desperately slow to load and sound like a 747 in the living room - drives me

TVM in advance.

So it would seem; the XBox evidently has a PATA drive and anyhow, the constant rewriting wouldn't really suit a SSD.

It appears that it is possible to change the fan but that the DVD drive is the real problem.

Swap the laser or drive, no need to replace the whole unit

The drives are naff in the old 360's, they are so loud even at idle with the game installed to HDD.

Get yourself a 360S and you will notice a massive difference.

I did this after my non-HDMI 20gb broke for good (had survived 2 years with x-clamp).
It's a massive difference, fan is much quieter, DVD drive is far quieter, a far better machine to have in the living room!

For the older style Xbox, there are a number of replacement fan options that claim to be quieter and more efficient.

Ebay is your best bet.
