Xbox to TV via HDMI

Never used HDMI to conect anything before so am a little unsure.

Yes that will be fine. Signal loss is a much smaller issue with HDMI compared to old analogue cables so, over a sensible distance, pretty much any HDMI cable will be fine.

You're usually better off sticking to 720p or 1080p (depending on which your TV supports).
