The hardware of the new consoles is now very similar to a PC and now it seems like the next XBox could be running Windows.

With Mantle and DirectX 12 PC's are becoming more like consoles with low level APIs they can get more from the hardware like consoles currently can.

Steam Boxes are on the horizon which is going to mean lots of PC's under the TV running Windows or Linux and playing PC games from Steam and Origin.

If Xbox uses Windows what's to stop people also using Steam and Origin.

On top of this with Sony leaving the PC market it seems like to me it could be an end to traditional consoles and we will all be using PCs to play our games in the future.

So will you be buying a Windows machine or a Linux based one? :D

Linux all the way.

A cross-platform OS can only mean more bloat, with interfaces that service all platforms inadequately.

Not read the article, but I pretty much use my PC as a console anyway. The only difference between my PC and an XBONE is the exclusives. Which I don't believe is that many anyway? Well of course the PC has many more....

Won't this only give the xbox a further disadvantage by having windows os running in the background?

The Xbox one already runs on the Windows kernel does it not?
Probably just a BS article.

I remember the Windows 8 will have Xbox 360 emulation one.

I would be so good to play all games from just one platform for me it wouldnt have swap between rooms for pc / xbox / ps4
