I'm getting more into my 360 and i'm getting moaned at for not being able to chat online. Also it would be nice to use headphones occasionally for gameplay rather than to listen through speakers.

I've been looking at some of the Turtle Beach headsets, particularly the X31 which is about the top of my budget (before anyone recommends the Astro A40 & Mixamp!) but I have a perfectly decent set of Grado headphones at the moment and was wondering whether I could use them as an alternative to the all-in-one headsets? I do understand that by using the Grados I will not have wireless and that I will need to add some kind of microphone.

Any suggestions anyone or am I barking up the wrong tree?

-edit- Just to add more information, the headphones are Grado SR-80 and at the moment I have the XBOX audio coming through an Arcam AVR280 amp via optical.

There was a thread on this only a week or so ago with recommendations on mics and headsets. Lots of other threads in the search too. :)

Yes mate, thanks. Maybe my searching skills are not up to scratch but I couldn't find much on using standard headphones and a mic too. Thanks for the diagram though; i found it very helpful ;)

Astro Mixamp (on its own) + Grados = far superior to any Turtle Beach headsets

You can just hang a mic around your neck then set the voice to come through your headphones, it's not the best solution but it's better than paying for those things.

Do you have an amp of any sort already? Some A/V amps do Dolby Headphone I believe so you could just use that, if not then the mixamp does DH which will give you a surround sound effect through your stereo Grados. (works a lot better than '5.1' headsets)

Thanks for that :) I'm pretty sure that my AV amp doesn't have dolby headphone but I'll look into the mixamp and its functionality. For the meantime, I managed to find an old plantronics headset that I bought years ago for my telephone which will allow me to do voice chat.

I'm just trying to figure this out, basic question:

These x11s are USB right? Do they work for both gaming and comms or is it a straight replacement for the 360 headset.

I want to have a headset that does both the comms and the game because at the moment I have a set of normal skullcandy headphones plugged in to my TV and I have the mic hanging around my neck, which doesn't work well because the comms is super super quiet.

The Turtle Beach headsets are integrated sound and comms both of which can be adjusted separately.

My misses got me a set last chrimbo (X1s) and I would recommend them to any1 looking for a headset for the 360.
