Had a PS3 and XBOX 360 and to be honest the xbox 360 is the one i kept.
In a thread such as this it might be an idea as to say why you prefer one over the other
I've got both and if I had to sell one it'd be the PS3 in a heartbeat! The 360 is just a step ahead in my opinion and feels like a more complete experience - Custom sound track in all games and cross game invites. Sony have tacked these features on with firmware updates so not all games support them.
Also the fact that almost all games released on both systems look and run better on the 360, and the PS3 controller was designed around 15 years ago! That's like Nintendo still using the N64 pad for the Wii
Sony cannot add custom soundtracks at the moment as Microsoft patented the technology behind it, so their hands are tied with regard to this for now.
While I agree that the 360 controller for me, is marginally better, I would say that once you get used to the PS3 one it doesn't really matter at all, the sheer wealth of better games puts small issues like the above to bed as far as I am concerned.
You are buying a games console to play games on, a lot of them are Multiformat and for comparisons you would need most games side by side and be really fussy (which you never will do). There are a huge amount of PS3 exclusive games that are simply astounding compared to 360 offerings.
The hardware on the PS3 does not cripple its graphical ability compared to the 360, it is just harder to code for. Uncharted 2 is a good example of a Dev team that know how to use the hardware properly, it is probably the best looking console game to date, and its only on the PS3!
It must sound like I am fanboying, but aside from the BluRay player the difference should come down to what console your friends have. They are both very similair at the end of the day, however you might notice that people who are telling you to get an Xbox, haven't got many (or ANY) reasons at all for you to do so
